Badian Island: A Hidden Paradise in the Philippines

Somewhere in the south of Cebu City, we found a paradise island called Badian Island. It is a 3-hour drive from the city and a 10-minute boat ride from the main island. The getaway island is not that popular to tourists as compared to more popular counterparts such as Boracay, Coron, and El Nido. Probably because of its remote location and more laid-back environment. But if you’re looking for an escape from the bustling city lifestyle, and you just want to relax and appreciate the beauty of nature, Badian island is the perfect destination for you.

During our visit in Badian, we stayed at Badian Island Resort and Spa, which is the best resort in Badian and the only resort in the offshore island. From Badian proper, which is located at the main island of Cebu, we rode a boat in order to go to the resort for about 10 minutes.

We were welcomed with a summer island drink and a great view of the white sand beach. Along the beach, there were small huts where you can relax and sunbathe.

The road to the cabins are filled with white sand, coconut trees and garden plants. It takes around 5 minutes from the beach.

The room is big and elegant, as expected for the best resort in Badian.

There’s even a hammock at the balcony, and a tub filled with petals in the bathroom. Great ways to enjoy your room!

Even though the resort is remotely located in a separate island, we did not get bored during our 2-day stay as there are many activities to do around Badian.

Canyoneering is traveling in canyons, in which you will have to use various techniques like hiking, climbing, jumping off cliffs (which is the best part), rappelling, and swimming in rivers and waterfalls. We booked through Kawasan Canyoneering and I can say that they did a great job guiding us out alive and healthy all the way through the canyon trails. They even took care of the video recording for the documentation of our canyoneering experience. If you want to feel some adrenaline rush while enjoying nature, this activity is perfect for you.

Kawasan falls

This is one of the best waterfalls in Cebu island. After the canyoneering activities, you will end up being here. You can eat lunch, rest, swim, or ride a floating raft to go underneath the falls. The falls has a great view so you can also take pictures. However, it gets crowded at times especially during lunch time.

Sunset viewing

I do not recommend swimming in the beach of Badian island. However, the view is great especially when the sun sets. You can lie down the sunbathing bed along the beach shore and have a great time relaxing.

Dinner with a band and cultural show

Every night, the resort prepares dinner tables and organizes some cultural shows such as live bands, and some dancing while the guests are eating dinner. The location differs every night. During our stay, the location was beside the pool on our first night, and along the beach shore on the next. Guests can also join the dancing part which is very fun.

Chilling by the beach

This is a bar along the beach where you can order drinks and snacks. Good place for hanging out with family and friends.

Spa by the beach

Get a pampering massage or a rejuvenating bath while having a great view of the beach. The best time for this is early in the morning or during sunset to have a spectacular view.

Our two-day stay passed by fast and sadly, we had to say goodbye to Badian island. As we exit the island, we were surprised by the resort staff with their farewell songs and gifts. It was really an amazing escape from the city life. Someday, I hope to be back again.
